Vintage 1930s Barbola vanity mirror.
Barbola is a decorative technique that uses a gesso paste to create raised, three-dimensional floral and naturalistic designs on objects like mirrors, boxes, and vases. The paste, made from a mixture of whiting and glue, was molded into shapes like flowers, leaves, and fruit, and then painted and varnished to achieve a glossy finish. This method was a cheaper and lighter alternative to carved wood and became popular for creating intricate decorative pieces
