Parquetry is a form of decorative woodworking that involves arranging small blocks or strips of wood (or wood-effect materials) in a geometric, mosaic pattern to create a visually striking surface.  Many antique and vintage examples of parquetry boxes showcasing intricate designs like stars, lozenges, and basketweave patterns using different types of wood veneer to create contrasting colours and textures.
